Olivia Wilde Biography

Born Olivia Jane Cockburn on March 10, 1984 in New York, Olivia Wilde is the daughter of a “60 Minutes” journalist/producer Leslie Cockburn and an Irish journalist Andrew Cockburn. Since age 2, Wilde already wanted to become an actress. Although her family lived in Vermont, Olivia studied in Washington D.C. and moved to Ireland where she studied acting at The Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin. After graduating, Wilde moved to Los Angeles.

Wilde didn’t start her career in the limelight; her first experience in the entertainment industry was an internship job as a casting assistant. In 2003, Olivia was cast in the TV show, “Skins” where she played Jewel Goldman for six episodes. Since then, she dropped the name Olivia Jane Cockburn to use her pen name “Olivia Wilde.”

About Olivia Wilde

After completing her studies at the Gaiety School of Acting, Olivia Wilde started her career as a casting assistant and jumped into the limelight soon after. She worked on supporting roles for several films, including “The Girl Next Door”, “Alpha Dog”, “Conversations with Other Women”, “Bickford Shmeckler’s Cool Ideas” and “Turistas”.

Wilde also appeared in the TV show “Skin” from 2003 to 2004, but it was only until she was cast to play Alex Kelly on the hit TV series “The O.C.” that Wilde became a household name. Since then, she appeared in two music videos – one for Dashboard Confessional’s “Stolen” and the other for French Kicks’ “So Far We Are”. By 2005, she was included in the Maxim Magazine’s Hot 100 ranking #61 and also in FHM’s 2006 100 Sexiest Women as #95.

In 2007, Olivia Wilde was cast in the NBC drama “The Black Donnellys” and later joined the cast of the FOX hit show “House” as a young doctor named ‘Thirteen’ for 21 episodes, where she earned a Teen Choice Award nomination for ‘Choice TV Breakout Star Female’. In 2008, she starred in the film “Fix” and will appear in the movies “The Year One” and “In Northwood” in 2009.
