Born as Mayte Michelle Rodriguez on July 12, 1978 in Bexar County Texas, Michelle Rodriguez lived in the Dominican Republic when she was 8, moved to Puerto Rico at age 11 and finally settled in Jersey City, New Jersey. With dreams of becoming a writer and director, Michelle pursued an acting career as a stepping-stone in the entertainment industry.
Her plans were on track when she ran across an ad for open auditions on the 2000 low-budget indie film “Girl Fight” and beat 350 hopeful actresses for the role of Diana Guzman. For a first film, Rodriguez has already won the recognition of both critics and fans, leading to several nominations and awards from the Independent Spirit Awards, National Board of Review, Gotham Awards, Deauville Film Festival, Sundance, Cannes Film Festival and Las Vegas Film Critics Sierra Awards.

Michelle Rodriguez started her career with a bang – beating over 300 girls for a female boxer role in the 2000 film, Girlfight, which earned her several awards and nominations in the independent film circles, including the Cannes and Sundance. Rodriguez’s acting talent was noticed immediately and led to several successful movies such as “The Fast and the Furious”, “Resident Evil”, “Blue Crush” and “S.W.A.T.” She even branched out to voicing and lent her voice to the video game, “Halo 2” and Cartoon Network’s “IGPX”.
