Lauren Graham Biography

Lauren Helen Graham was born on March 16, 1967 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She discovered her love for acting while attending elementary school and actively practiced her skills at the Langley High School. While attending high school, Graham also participated in small productions and community theatres. After attending the Barn Theater in Michigan for two years, she received her “actor’s equity card” in 1988. Determined to pursue a profession in the entertainment industry, Lauren Graham studied at the Barnard College and graduated with a degree in English in 1988. She then moved to Texas and earned a Master degree in Acting Performance at the Southern Methodist University.

Lauren moved to New York to pursue an acting career, but relocated to Hollywood in 1995. Some of Graham’s earlier appearances include commercials for Lean Cuisine and Dimetapp, followed by a hosting gig for “The Movie Channel.” In 1995, Graham landed a recurring role as Shelley in the TV series, “Caroline in the City.” The following year, she appeared in several shows including “Good Company,” “Townies,” “Third Rock from the Sun,” and “Lush Life.” She also appeared Seinfeld as one of Jerry’s girlfriends, starred in a three-part episode on “Law & Order” and guest-starred in “Newsradio.” Aside from TV work, Lauren Graham also appeared in various films, including the 1997 horror flick “Nightwatch,” the 1998 drama “One True Thing,” and the 1999 feature film “Dill Scallion.” Lauren came back to her roots in 1998 and guest-starred in the TV series “Conrad Bloom” and "M.Y.O.B." in 2000.

Lauren Graham started her acting career in community theaters and small productions. By 1994, she became the dog mascot ‘Striker’ for the FIFA World Cup, but later had big breaks doing TV commercials for products like Lean Cuisine and Dimetapp. In 1995, she also hosted the free preview weekends on “The Movie Channel”. She then appeared in several prime-time TV shows, such as “Townies” and “Lush Life”. From 1996 to 1997, she guest-starred in various hit shows, but when she appeared in several notable hit TV series such as, “Third Rock from the Sun”, “Seinfeld”, “Caroline in the City” and “Law & Order” that Graham’s talent was put to the spot light. However, her breakthrough TV show was on the series, “Gilmore Girls” where she played Max Medina, a role that landed her a nomination for Best Actress in a TV Series at the 2001 Golden Globe Awards and numerous awards from 2002 to 2006.

At the start of the 7th season, Graham became a producer of “Gilmore Girls”. By 2006, Graham went back to her roots and guest-starred in the NBC series, “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” and appeared on “Celebrity Poker Showdown”. Graham also appeared in various feature films, including “Sweet November”, “Bad Santa”, “The Pacifier”, “Because I Said So” and “Evan Almighty”.
