Ramirez was born on November 8, 1979 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. As a child, Dania knew she wanted to become an actress, so much so that she entertained her family by reenacting Spanish soap operas. While working in a convenience store in New York, she was discovered by a modeling scout, who helped the 15-year-old Dania appear in a soda commercial. While attending Montclair State University, she was one of the best volleyball players on the team. However, when she graduated in 1999, Ramirez moved to Los Angeles to pursue professional acting and attended the Actor’s Workshop in New York City under Flo Greenberg.

During the early years of Dania’s career, she had a successful run as a print and TV model. In 1997, when Ramirez met director Spike Lee, she was cast as an extra in the HBO film, “Subway Stories.” Soon after, she appeared in Jay-Z’s music video for the 1998 song “Streets is Watching.” By the start of 2000, her acting career started to pick up and she was cast in Spike Lee’s 2002 movie, “25th Hour,” and appeared on the seventh season of the UPN hit series, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

In 2004, Dania Ramirez appeared in four films, including “The Ecology of Love,” “She Hate Me,” “Fat Albert,” and “Cross Bronx.” The following year, Ramirez appeared in the made-for-TV movie “Romy & Michele: In The Beginning” – a prequel to the 1997 box-office hit “Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.”She was also featured in LL Cool J’s music video for “Hush.”

2006 was the year Dania Ramirez shined – she was cast in the HBO mobster-inspired series “The Sopranos” and played the love interest of A.J. Soprano named Blanca Selgado, a role she played in the sixth and seventh season of the show. That same year, she portrayed Callisto in the 2006 comic book flick, “X-Men: The Last Stand.” By 2007, Dania Ramirez has become a household name. She joined the cast of NBC’s hit sci-fi series “Heroes” and played Maya Herrera who has a deadly super power. Dania also appeared on the 2007 movie “Illegal Tender” and was featured in Santana’s music video for the song “Into the Night.”

In 2008, while continuing her work in “Heroes,” Ramirez appeared in several films, including “Ball Don’t Lie” as Carmen, “Brooklyn to Manhattan” as Jessica, “The Fifth Commandment” as Angel and “Quarantine” as Sadie.
