Catherine Lisa Bell was born on August 14, 1968 in London. After her parents divorced while she was 3 years old, Catherine Bell and her mom moved to L.A. California and became a naturalized U.S. citizen at age 12. As a child, Catherine appeared in various TV advertisements. With an interest in math and biology, Bell attended UCLA to pursue a career as a physician and biomedical engineer, but decided to become a full-time model instead.
As a model, Catherine had an extensive job in Japan, but when she returned to the United States, she studied professional acting with Milton Katselas in California. She landed a one-line role on the 1990 sitcom “Sugar and Spice,” and acted as Isabella Rossellini’s body-double in the 1992 movie, “Death Becomes Her.” She was then featured in the HBO sitcom “Dream On” in 1994.
Some of the films Catherine Bell has worked on included the “Mother of the Bride” in 1993, “Men of War” in 1994, “Alien Nation: Body and Soul” in 1995, “Crash Drive” in 1997, “Black Thunder” and “Cab to Canada” in 1998, as well as “Thrill Seekers” in 1999.
Bell also appeared in various TV series, including a two-episode role in “Vanishing Son,” in the sitcom “Friends” and “The Naked Truth,” all of which she worked on in 1995. From 1994 to 1996, Catherine was featured in the late night series “Hot Line: The Brunch Club” and “Hotline Volume 3.” However, it was in 1995 that Catherine Bell landed a role as the U.S. Marine Corps Major Sarah MacKenzie on the hit TV series “JAG” that brought Bell to major stardom. She portrayed an attorney for the U.S. Navy from 1995 to 2005.
In 1997 to 1998, Catherine Bell appeared in an episode of “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” and “Sin City Spectacular.” In 2003, Bell had a supporting role in the comedy flick, “Bruce Almighty” and later reprised her role as a TV news anchor in the 2007 sequel “Evan Almighty.” She then appeared in several TV shows, including “Walking the Dead” in 2003 as well as “Threshold” and “Law & Order Special Victims Unit” in 2006.
In 2005, Bell appeared in the Sci-Fi Channel hit mini-series “The Triangle,” which led to a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress on Television. Since 2007, Catherine played Denise Sherwood in the Lifetime TV drama series, “Army Wives.” She then wore the hat of executive producer and lead role in the made-for-TV Hallmark film “The Good Witch” in 2008 and its sequel “The Good Witch 2” in 2009.
