Catherine Bell Biography

Catherine Lisa Bell was born on August 14, 1968 in London. After her parents divorced while she was 3 years old, Catherine Bell and her mom moved to L.A. California and became a naturalized U.S. citizen at age 12. As a child, Catherine appeared in various TV advertisements. With an interest in math and biology, Bell attended UCLA to pursue a career as a physician and biomedical engineer, but decided to become a full-time model instead.

As a model, Catherine had an extensive job in Japan, but when she returned to the United States, she studied professional acting with Milton Katselas in California. She landed a one-line role on the 1990 sitcom “Sugar and Spice,” and acted as Isabella Rossellini’s body-double in the 1992 movie, “Death Becomes Her.” She was then featured in the HBO sitcom “Dream On” in 1994.

Catherine Bell appeared in various TV ads as a child, but only modeled professionally in the late 1980s in Japan. When Bell returned to California, she pursued acting and landed her first one-liner role on the 1990 sitcom, Sugar and Spice. In 1992, Bell made it to the big screen, but only as Isabella Rossellini’s body double in the film, Death Becomes Her.

In 1994, Catherine Bell landed a role in the HBO TV sitcom, “Dream On” and a U.K. late-night adult series called “Hot Line”, wherein she appeared until 1996. Catherine Bell is popular for her role as Major Sarah MacKenZie on the hit TV series, JAG, which she portrayed until 2005. In 2003, Bell appeared in a supporting role for the comedy flick, “Bruce Almighty” and again its sequel “Evan Almighty” in 2007. Before the end of 2005, Bell appeared in the Sci-Fi Channel’s series, “The Triangle”, wherein she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress on Television at the Saturn Award of Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.

By 2006, Bell appeared in several TV shows, including the Threshold and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In 2007, Catherine Campbell starred in another drama series, “Army Wives”. After her role as Cassandra Nightingale in the 2008 Hallmark movie, “The Good Witch”, Bell is set to reprise her role and wear the hat of co-executive producer in “The Good Witch 2” to be released 2009.
