In 1988, Alyson earned her first major role in the sci-fi comedy flick “My Stepmother Is an Alien,” alongside Seth Green. The following year, Hannigan landed a regular role on the TV sitcom “Free Spirit.” She came back to her roots and appeared on various TV commercials through most of the early 1990s. Alyson Hannigan’s big break came when she was cast to portray Buffy’s best friend Willow Rosenberg on the TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” With the show’s success, Alyson gained global recognition and was cast in a number of movies aimed at teen audiences, such as “Dead Man on Campus,” and “Boys and Girls.”

After performing at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, Alyson Hannigan returned to her roots and had a recurring guest role as Trina Echolls in the TV series “Veronica Mars.”

In 2005, Hannigan landed a new gig on the TV series “How I Met Your Mother.” On the show, Alyson portrays the morally inclined, kindergarten teacher Lily Aldrin. In 2006, she starred in the parody on romantic comedies “Date Movie.” Just after the fourth season of “How I Met Your Mother” aired in September 2008, Alyson announced she was pregnant with her first child, due in spring 2009.
